Mission, Vision & Guiding Principles

HR supports the university’s threefold mission of education, research, and discovery by developing and implementing policies, programs, and services that sustain an innovative and diverse workforce that is committed to excellence.

Our vision is to have constituents view us as One HR, which they can access from a variety of touch points. HR Business Partners are our field HR representatives who work in the various departments and schools throughout JHU. They partner with management to navigate complex employee relations issues, contract with new hires, facilitate promotions and transfers, and ensure that training objectives are achieved. HR Business Partners are connected to and collaborate with our HR Centers of Expertise.

Centers of Expertise

This centralized team of specialists designs programs, policies, and processes for delivering HR services across the university. Our Centers of Expertise are Global HR, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, HR Business Services, HR Health Sciences, HR Finance and Administration, and Employee and Labor Relations.

HR serves a variety of constituents: faculty, staff, students, retirees, and the community. When interacting with HR, constituents are typically looking for a solution—either to better manage their business life or their personal life. Our vision is to ensure that our HR solutions are simple, innovative, integrated, and aligned with our constituents’ needs. These four attributes are the guiding principles that define our work.
