Baby Shower FAQ

Answers to your questions about the Johns Hopkins Baby Shower:

Am I eligible to attend?

All JHU and JHH full- and part-time faculty and staff are eligible to attend the Johns Hopkins Baby Shower free of charge as part of their employee benefits package. Unfortunately, residents, postdocs, and graduate students are not eligible to attend at this time.

Do I have to attend the entire event?

While it is not required for you to attend for the entire time, it is strongly encouraged. The event is composed of five presentations and one break-out session. Before, during, and after the presentations, you can speak with vendors such as the Maryland Family Network to discuss its LOCATE: Child Care referral service, and with EHP to discuss health insurance. If you must leave the event early or arrive late, you will receive handouts from all the presentations.

Can I bring a guest?

Guests are welcomed and encouraged to attend. If you would like to bring one, please include your guest’s name on the registration form to ensure we have an accurate count for materials and seating.

I didn’t register to bring a guest. May I bring one anyway?

Yes. We ask that you email worklife@jhu.edu to let us know that you have decided to bring a guest to the Baby Shower. Please include your guest’s name.

Can I bring my child?

For this event, we ask that you do not bring your child. We can assist you in using JHU’s backup care. Please email worklife@jhu.edu if you need more information or help accessing backup care.

How do I handle maternity leave? What do I need to know about adding my child to my benefits package?

A Benefits & Worklife representative at the Baby Shower will discuss employee benefits related to the addition of a new baby to your family. If you have specific questions about your benefits, you will be able to speak with the benefits representative after his or her presentation.

I attended in the past, can I attend again?

You are welcome to attend again; however, a majority of the information will be similar to that at previous baby showers.
