The Tuition Reimbursement Plan for Faculty and Staff in Outlying Areas covers undergraduate and graduate studies at an accredited school outside of JHU.
If you are a faculty or staff member who both lives and works outside of the Baltimore or Washington metropolitan area, you become eligible for this benefit once you have completed 120 days of full-time employment and continue in a full-time position. If the course is a requirement for your job, the 120-day waiting period can be waived with your supervisor’s or department head’s certification. Retirees, family members, Visiting Faculty and Staff, Residents, Interns and Postdoctoral Fellows are not eligible for this plan.
About the Plan
This Tuition Reimbursement Plan applies only to undergraduate and graduate courses taken for academic credit (not audit) at an accredited, degree-granting college or university outside of Johns Hopkins University. Reimbursement is up to 11 credits. Credit courses taken for audit, pass/fail, non-credit, and JHU courses are not covered by this plan.
Reimbursement is made for 100% of tuition and mandatory fees on courses that you successfully complete with a “C” or above. A limit of $5,250 paid per calendar year applies.
Tuition reimbursement used by employees on all undergraduate and graduate courses is tax-free.
After you complete the eligible course, fill out and return the Tuition Reimbursement Plan Application For Faculty and Staff to the Benefits Service Center along with copies of your itemized tuition and fees, receipt, grade report(s), and supervisor certification. Submit reimbursement requests within 12 months of course completion.
The Benefits Service Center will review and approve reimbursement for all eligible costs, and payment will be made directly into your paycheck. Reimbursement requests submitted by the 5th of the month will be paid by the second pay of the month.
