Milestone Recognition

The Johns Hopkins University Staff Milestone Recognition program was created to honor staff members whose ongoing contributions enable the university’s success.

Through the program, full- and part-time staff members have the opportunity to choose from a selection of JHU-branded awards when they reach a five-year milestone. Look for an email from JHU Recognition within two weeks of your work anniversary. Expand the content below to learn more.

Awards

Staff celebrating milestone anniversaries with the university may choose from a variety of custom-designed service awards. For staff who use e210 time tracking, your eligibility date can be found there.

If you’re celebrating a milestone anniversary with the university, you’ll receive a congratulatory email within two weeks of the anniversary, with an invitation to select a recognition award. You can have your award delivered to your work or home address.

If you did not receive an email from JHU Recognition ([email protected]) and believe you should be on the list of people celebrating a milestone anniversary, please email Benefits & Worklife or call 410-516-2000.

Eligibility

Full- and part-time staff in all divisions of the university are recognized.

The following groups are not included in the Employee Recognition Program:

  • Faculty
  • Casual, limited, and temporary staff
  • Hospital service before transfer to the university payroll (administrative transfers are reviewed on a case-by-case basis)
  • Retired staff who work on a casual, limited, part-time, or full-time basis

Breaks in Service

Note: Milestone eligibility is separate from retirement eligibility. The break in service policies are different. Please contact [email protected] to inquire about your retirement eligibility.

Breaks in service are handled as follows:

  • If a full- or part-time staff member leaves the university for more than three months before completing one year of continuous service, they’re not eligible to have that time counted toward service accrual.
  • If a full- or part-time staff member is employed with the university for at least one year continuously and goes on a leave of absence for three months or less, their service is treated as if there was no break.
  • If a full- or part-time staff member is employed with the university for at least one year continuously, is let go due to a reduction in force, and is rehired in three months or less, their service is treated as if there was no break.
  • If a full- or part-time staff member works for at least one year and is rehired after more than three months, the staff member’s service date is adjusted to account for the time not employed.

If you feel that you may be eligible to have separate service periods combined, please email the Benefits Service Center or call 410-516-2000. Include the following details for each continuous period of employment:

  • Date of hire
  • Date of start of leave or termination
  • Date of return or rehire
  • Division and department where you worked
  • Employment status (full- or part-time)
  • Whether you were faculty or staff
  • Your full name (and any former names under which you worked) and your SAP personnel number (found on your E210 sheet).
