JHU offers these programs to help protect your financial health, which is an important element of your overall well-being. You can elect coverage under these plans during annual enrollment.
Financial Benefits
Life Insurance
JHU provides basic life insurance coverage equal to 100% of your base annual salary at no cost to you. You can purchase supplemental life insurance coverage equal to an additional 1 times your basic salary up to a maximum of $2,000,000 (basic and supplemental combined).
JHU also pays the full cost of dependent life insurance:
- $4,000 for your spouse or domestic partner
- $2,000 per child (until the end of the year they turn 26)
What you need to know: If you are not a new hire and you elect supplemental life insurance coverage for the first time, you must provide evidence of insurability (EOI).
Disability Protection
JHU provides long-term disability insurance at no cost to all full-time, benefits-eligible LIUNA bargaining unit members who have completed one year of service. This benefit replaces a portion of your income when disability makes work impossible over a long period of time.
We also offer the ability to purchase short-term coverage, which provides a portion of income for disabilities that cause shorter-duration absence from work.
Short-term disability: After 14 consecutive days, replaces 60% of your pay for up to 11 weeks (up to $2,500 weekly)
Long-term disability: After 90 consecutive days, replaces 60% of your pre-disability base salary (up to $10,000 per month)
