Physical Fitness

Whether you’re looking for a high-energy cardio workout, want to take a strengthening and toning class, or prefer to just hit the gym solo, we have low-cost and convenient options that will help you meet your fitness goals. Classes are offered at multiple locations, including Homewood, East Baltimore, and White Marsh.

Classes and Fitness Facilities

Cardio Fusion

Cardio Fusion is an aerobic workout combining kickboxing, hi/lo floor aerobics, and boot camp drills. The class, offered at Homewood, is open to everyone, from beginners to advanced exercisers.

Muscle Toning & Conditioning

This 45-minute workout focuses on strengthening and conditioning every major muscle group in the body, with cardio intervals interspersed between strength exercises. The class is open to everyone, from beginners to advanced exercisers, and is offered at Homewood and White Marsh.


Zumba is a high-energy cardio fitness class that blends the rhythm of Latin music with easy-to-follow dance steps. The class welcomes all levels of experience, so if you’ve never tried Zumba, now’s your chance. Zumba is offered at the Homewood and East Baltimore campuses. Our East Baltimore classes are offered at different times, with one located in the Darner Room and the other in the Meyer Gym.

On-Site Fitness Centers

Low membership rates are available to faculty, staff, and bargaining unit members at our on-site fitness centers at the Ralph S. O’Connor Recreation Center on the Homewood campus and the Cooley Center on the East Baltimore campus. Contact the center to join.

Work Out Off-Campus

Want to work out off-campus? As an employee of JHU, you may be eligible for discounts at select fitness centers throughout the Greater Baltimore area. Contact the fitness centers directly for discount information.
