Physical Fitness

Whether you’re looking for a high-energy cardio workout, want to take a strengthening and toning class, or prefer to just hit the gym solo , we have convenient options that will help you meet your fitness goals. All JHU Wellness classes are currently free and offered virtually. Virtual wellness classes are  accessible to JHU  benefits-eligible faculty, staff,  and bargaining unit members.

ZUMBA
Mondays, 4/5/2021-6/14/2021,  5:30-6:30PM   NEW TIME
Zumba combines Latin dance rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create a fun, easy and high-energy aerobic routine.

YOGA STRENGTH
Tuesdays, 4/6/2021-6/15/2021, 12:00-1:00PM
Enjoy this flowing yoga class incorporating core work and strength building. At times we will utilize hand weights, but their use is optional. This class provides a full-body challenge and ends with much deserved sweet rest! Other equipment needed: yoga mat, yoga block, blanket (optional).

SEATED MEDITATION
Tuesdays, 4/6/2021-6/15/2021, 5:30-6:00PM
This is seated mindfulness meditation class. Mindfulness meditation provide tools for calming the mind and short-circuiting the body’s stress response providing the practitioner a chance to get out of the cycle of chronic stress.

INSANITY
Wednesdays,  4/7/2021-6/16/2021,  7:30-8:00AM  NEW TIME
This HIGH Intensity class is now 30 minutes and will work in 3 to 5-minute blocks for max interval training to keep pushing your limits. Modifications are provided so that you can tailor the class to suit your level, giving you a challenging but safe workout whether you’re a moderate exerciser or you live for the gym.

RELAXATION & MEDITATION
Thursdays, 4/8/2021-6/17/2021,  12:30 PM – 1:00PM  NEW TIME
This class is now 30 minutes of concentrated gentle bending, twisting and coordinated breathing. Learn to relieve tension and stress with this relaxation class. This class may involve floor exercises so have a mat available. Participants should bring a mat for this class.

YOGA CORE
Fridays, 4/9/2021-6/18/2021, 7:30-8:15am,
This yoga class is all about the muscles of the trunk! Core strength and flexibility are crucial for overall health, aiding in supporting the spine and can reduce or prevent back pain. Strong postural muscles improve respiratory health, energy, and even mood! Equipment needed: yoga mat, block, optional blanket.

MIXXEDFIT
Fridays, 4/9/2021-6/18/2021 from 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM
This dance-inspired class is a mix of explosive dancing and boot camp packed into 30 minutes. It is spiced up by adding boot camp-inspired exercises to make your workout more effective and challenging.

SPECIAL 3 SESSION CLASS

Three Wednesdays ONLY, 12:30-1:00pm, 4/7/21, 5/5/21 & 6/2/21
Need a posture tune up? Whether you are sitting or standing all day, proper alignment is key for your musculoskeletal health and your overall well-being. Join us for three 30 minute sessions on the first Wednesday of April, May and June.

Low membership rates are available to faculty, staff, and bargaining unit members at our on-site fitness centers at the Ralph S. O’Connor Recreation Center on the Homewood campus and the Cooley Center on the East Baltimore campus. Contact the center to join. Both centers are currently offering free virtual classes to all Hopkins affiliates.
