If you smoke, use tobacco products or vape, quitting is an essential step toward better health. Each of our medical plan providers offers support for smoking and tobacco cessation including free nicotine replacement therapy. If you are not enrolled in one of Johns Hopkins health insurance plans, you still have free smoking and tobacco cessation support through a national network of tobacco cessation quitlines.

Smoking and passive exposure to tobacco smoke are two key risk factors of lung cancers that you can control for yourself and your family. Please take advantage of the tobacco cessation programs below.  You may also be eligible for a free lung cancer screening, based on your smoking history. Craving to Quit

Craving to Quit is a 21-day tobacco cessation program offered at no cost to members through our wellness partner, Sharecare, Inc. Craving to Quit is an evidence-based mindfulness program that delivers behavior change techniques through videos, animations, in-the-moment exercises, and an online support community. Developed and tested in conjunction with leading research universities, the program helps participants master techniques to control tobacco cravings and change smoking habits.

Nicotine Replacement through Express Scripts

Prescription and over-the-counter nicotine replacement products are covered at 100% for BCBS and EHP through Express Scripts. You can purchase prescribed medications with a prescription from your doctor, as well as any over the counter medications by using your Express Scripts card.

National Resources

National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines -1-800-QUIT-NOW

Quitlines are telephone-based tobacco cessation services, available at no cost to US residents in each state, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Quitlines help tobacco users quit through a variety of service offerings including individual counseling, practical information on how to quit, referral to other cessation resources, mailed self-help materials, information on FDA-approved cessation medications, and in some cases, free or discounted cessation medications.
